Umbilical cord blood stem cells are collected at the moment the umbilical cord between the mother and child is cut. The collection is easy, over in a few minutes and completely harmless to both the mother and child. It does not affect natural sequences of a birth at all and in contrast to the collection of adult stem cells, no invasive procedure is needed.
Soon after, the cord blood will be picked up by a certified international courier service and immediately taken to our processing facility. There it will be checked and prepared for storage.
The process to determine the cells’ quantity and quality is carried out using state-of-the-art technology. They are then divided into two containers and stored at a temperature below -170°C in the gas phase of liquid nitrogen at two physically separated locations for additional safety.
