Umbilical cord blood stem cells are collected at the moment the umbilical cord between the mother and child is cut. The collection is easy, over in a few minutes and completely harmless to both the mother and child. It does not affect natural sequences of a birth at all and in contrast to the collection of adult stem cells, no invasive procedure is needed.

Soon after, the cord blood will be picked up by a certified international courier service and immediately taken to our processing facility. There it will be checked and prepared for storage.

The process to determine the cells’ quantity and quality is carried out using state-of-the-art technology. They are then divided into two containers and stored at a temperature below -170°C in the gas phase of liquid nitrogen at two physically separated locations for additional safety.

Should the cord blood supplied not correspond to the minimum requirements, we will leave it up to the parents to decide whether to freeze the sample or not to avoid any additional cost.

For the purposes of security and to assure that your child’s stem cells are assigned individually, they will be identified using unique bar codes. You will receive a corresponding certificate approximately six weeks following birth. This ensures that they will be quickly available when necessary. We will store the stem cells for up to 20 years. After that time, your child may decide by themselves whether to continue or terminate storage.
